The recent small increases in house prices across the country can almost certainly be caused by the lack of available properties on the market. If you drive around any town in Britain you are probably seeing fewer For Sale boards than ever before.
If you need to move and relocate for work or family reasons then your choice of property to buy is limited. Sellers are simply not wanting to sell and waiting for the market to recover.
The problem is that when sellers get excited again by rising prices and estate agents start sending you those letters saying they are looking for a house just like yours in your street (I’ve seen some already!) then all those reluctant sellers will come out of the woodwork and suddenly there will be a lot of property on the market.
The result? Too much supply = falling prices again.
